My Uncle is currently in this facility, I wouldn’t recommend this facility to any future families looking into the Hillandale Community. The facility itself is clean, that is about the only positive. My Uncle currently has an infection on his leg, the orders were written to have the area cleaned and bandages changed nightly Mon, Wed, Fri. He was admitted on a Wed the following Monday I checked his bandages as well as took videos and picture documentation, due to the fact it was now the following Monday and the wound has not been cleaned nor changed since the previous Wednesday. This is a serious infection which in turn could be life threatening. Had I not had the medical background, how many families would think to check their families medical needs, after all isn’t that what you are trusting this facility to do? As well, he requested his colostomy bag to be changed he was told it didn’t need to be. He changes his colostomy at home every 7 days, it was not until he refused to do weight checks and get out of bed the nurse changed his colostomy and reassured him he was right it did need to be changed. I will continue to document all medical issues and move up the chain of command to the board of nursing if necessary. This is completely unacceptable, but I will continue to babysit their employees to make sure my uncle gets the care he needs until he is discharged.

DO NOT SEND YOUR LOVED ONE. It seems like a nice place, but they take your family in and you can't see them because of COVID guidelines, and you can't contact them. My aunt has been there less than 24 hours and we have had no contact. When we call, we're transferred around. My aunt isn't answering the room phone or her cell phone and NO ONE cares to tell us what's going on. We have no idea what's happening with her, and she has been unwell for weeks. If my aunt were in prison, I would expect this. But she's in a care facility that does not actually care.

Had heard nice things about Chesterwood but earlier this week we checked my dad in and then checked him back out within 48 hours. When we dropped him off, the aide took my dad away in a wheelchair while I was getting his luggage out of the car. I turned around and he was gone. Eventually another aide came out to get his things and just said, yep, he's gone. Checked an hour or so later to make sure he had gotten his luggage and he hadn't. Had to call the desk where apparently the luggage had been sitting. Called the next day to see how he was adjusting. The front desk forwarded my call to his nurse who never picked up. Called the desk again and asked to leave a message. Apparently that's not possible because my call got forwarded to the nurse again who, again, never picked up. I let it ring for close to two minutes. No voice mail option. Overnight they woke my dad up at 4:30 a.m. just to weigh him. We could tell this was not going to be a good situation so we pulled him out as quickly as possible. Based on this experience, I would not recommend.

Caring and compassionate nurses and staff who go the extra mile to be certain my Mom is safe, secure and loved. Would not want her living anywhere else!
