Mike’s operation is money driven. They nearly force you to take outpatient counseling course from the people next door, who they claim “are not affiliated.” Oddly enough, mike gives an hour long presentation during one of his “unaffiliated neighbors” day long course. Never ever use this person to do analysis because they will automatically assign the maximum 75 hrs outpatient, which used to be $70 per hour. It’s a racquet and a scam. They have no interest in helping you with your problems, but just causing problems with your financial situation. I understand that his now divorced wife offers the same certification at a fraction of the cost, and way less hours, even after three dui convictions and less than a third of the hours mike requires. If you have an option, never use this service, and if you don’t have an option, tell him anything but the honest truth. Drinking 2 beers twice a week will qualify you for the max. He’s a court sanctioned scam artist. BEWARE!!!

I encountered Mike Dalen in 2003. My parents had consulted with an outside attorney whose opinion was that a private evaluation before court proceedings would be beneficial. I was 19 at the time. Our attorney had recommended Mike Dalen. My father accompanied me to the interview. After exchanging greetings, we explained why we had come, making clear that we were privately seeking an evaluation and this was not part of any court order. Mr. Dalen then asked my father to leave the room so he could perform his evaluation. After 20 minutes and a series of questions, the interview concluded. I thanked Mike and went on my way. A little more than a week later, I got an irate call from my case attorney. Mr. Dalen had taken it upon himself to send his evaluation directly to the court, bypassing both us (his clients) and my attorney. Mr. Dalen had further taken it upon himself to offer his personal opinion of my outcome. To say that his assessment, in either regard, was less than glowing is a comical understatement. I draw contention with Mr. Dalen's services on the following points: 1.) He overstepped his role. Ignoring the content of his report, by sending it to the court when not instructed to do so by anyone, Mr. Dalen either made a mistake or acted with direct intent to bypass me, as his client, to act as an agent of the prosecution. Both circumstances are indicative of incompetence or misleading practice. 2.) He misunderstood his role. Mike does not work for the court system, he works as an independent evaluation specialist. We made it clear to him that we were seeking his evaluation independently, and yet he issued his report to the prosecution without our knowledge or consent. Under no circumstance were we made aware that Mike would directly issue his personal opinion regarding me or my case directly to the court. 3.) His assessment was wrong. He took my interview responses and crafted a dry and chastising indictment of me as a person. Offering the evidence of the last 15 years (nearing as much time as I had lived prior to receiving Mr. Dalen's 2003 assessment), there have been no further incidents. Modestly, my life has been one of marked accomplishment. The most remarkable part of Mr. Dalen's resulting assessment is how remarkably incorrect it was. Mike, in case you read these, your job has the power to affect people's lives. Your overstepping is less of an issue to me than the gross inaccuracy of your assessment. Not one to forget favors, I am glad technology offers me the chance to give an unsolicited audit of my own. In my specific case, you were wrong. Your assessment was not correct.
