Methadone Maintenance at BAART La Puente

For almost 50 years, methadone has been one of the most successful medicines for treating opioid use disorder. Many people who are addicted to prescription or illicit opioids are unable to stop on their own due to the painful withdrawal symptoms they experience when they no longer have the drug, or enough of the drug, in their system. This causes drug users to continue to take larger and larger doses of opioids to chase away the awful symptoms that come about if they abstain. Methadone is a “full agonist” opioid with a longer half-life than most opioids. This means that the effects of the medicine are fully felt but last much longer, allowing a single therapeutic dosage to decrease withdrawal symptoms for 24-36 hours per dose.

Patients are required to visit the methadone clinic daily to receive their dose under the supervision of BAART nurses. The daily visits also provide much-needed structure to help patients stay committed to their treatment. After some time, medical providers may allow some patients to take their medication home, so they don’t have to commute to the clinic daily.

Substance Use Disorder Counseling

BAART realizes that, while MAT remedies the physical side of addiction, focus must also be put on the mental and behavioral aspects of substance use disorder, as well. This is why every patient at BAART LA Puente will work with a counselor to touch on factors that may have affected them in the past to lead them to their drug use. By working through past traumas, many people are able to grasp a better understanding of why they turn to drugs, and how it has impacted them negatively. This kind of individualized counseling is essential for long-lasting recovery, and many patients have found it inspiring to speak with someone who understands them in a judgment-free zone. Counselors are also there to help patients with goal setting, both long-term and short-term to make sure they are also looking to better their lives while seeking treatment. The counselors at BAART are empathetic and experienced, making them one of the most significant resources for patients enrolled at BAART La Puente.

Individualized Services at BAART Programs

For the most part we only ever deal with three consistent regular employees, whom are very polite always willing to figure out the answer to your question if it is not known to the best of their ability I think the office needs the elevator maintenance stand up and running. And I know this is not staff members fault or anyting but it seems that the clinic can never hang on to a quality doctor it seems when time comes to see the primary care doctor upstairs there is more often than none no doctor there on staff at the time for Med refills this is quite troubling and a major concern

Staff is amazing, counselors genuinely care about your recovery, always making sure your dose is holding you. My husband and I have been clean from heroin for over a year and a half thanks to this program. Nurses are great and very personable and friendly. Front desk is always great, they remember every patients name so you just walk in and go in line. Ray, the head counselor is awesome, he's very understanding and patient. Only issue I've had, is I'm used to other clinics being closed on weekends and holidays, giving take homes. But baart is open 365days a year. Although like I said, other clinics have been unsuccessful for me. Nothing but great things when it comes to this clinic :-)
