Medication-Assisted Treatment at BAART Visalia

Medication-assisted treatment is evidence-based and has been proven to be one of the safest and most effective methods to treat opioid addiction. With the use of medications like methadone and buprenorphine or Suboxone®, people who are addicted to medications such as OxyContin, Hydrocodone, and illicit opioids such as heroin can escape the discomfort of withdrawal. For many drug users, the occurrence of painful withdrawal symptoms pushes them to continue to use opioids, causing their addiction to spiral out of control quickly. For women who are pregnant and need to begin a treatment program or who become pregnant while on methadone or buprenorphine, the BAART team works closely with their physician or OBGYN to ensure that treatment decisions are made with the health of mother and baby in mind. These specialized pregnancy treatment resources are a part of our overall focus on patient health that includes STD screening and referrals out to physicians as needed to address the health concerns that may come with long-term active addiction.
