Do not send your loved ones if you love them to the facility in palm beach, Florida. They lie to you. This place is for prisoners that are court ordered. I went there willingly to find out this is the worse place I have ever seen. They take away all your clothes and beauty supplies. I wouldn't even put my dog in this place. This place should be shut down. My family and I are in the process of getting this place shut down. Not humane. Take this review serious.

This review may be what is considered “cross posted” with another nearby treatment facility owned by Banyan as the two facilities pass patients back and forth and both had a hand in my daughter’s care. I have never been more disappointed and angrier at a healthcare facility than I am at Banyan Treatment Centers. Almost every aspect of my family’s interaction with the staff at these facilities (with the notable exception of Caleb Bogard, the family liaison) can only be described as horrifying. Last fall I had the unfortunate experience of having to have my 19-year-old daughter involuntarily committed to a JFK Hospital in West Palm Beach after a long-lasting manic episode that culminated in her attempting to sneak back to our home state after speaking about some delusions and vague suicidal ideations. As JFK only offers short term medical clearance and stabilization, she wound up being referred to the residential programs that Banyan offers in lower Palm Beach County and Broward County as a dual diagnosis (Substance Abuse and Psychiatric) patient in the absence of any substance abuse or addiction history. From what we saw, the focus of these programs is mostly recovery from addiction with minimal psychiatric care made available while in residence that mostly focuses on future outpatient treatment by a professional. Early phone calls from our daughter showed a worsening of the manic state and delusions- discussing starting a family with a fellow resident (while being an unabashed lesbian since her early teens) and traumatic events that she was recalling that had never happened. The treatment staff allowed her to wallow in these delusions while giving them validation as they cut off contact with her mother and I as they found our urgings that our daughter’s behavior was bordering on psychotic to be “part of the problem” as one staff member stated. There were periods where the staff allowed a delusional and obviously psychotic patient prohibit her treatment team from asking her parents for any feedback and urged us to accept her aggressive phone calls consisting of mostly nonsensical rambling as “who she really is”. Also, during this time, they were providing cigarettes to her at the age of 19 (too young to posses them according to the law) which lead to a full-fledged dependency when she was released. Despite being eliminated from the treatment process; the staff had no reservations when calling about money matters. Her copayments were a frequent topic, and her discharge from the program after over three months occurred in a rapid fashion when I admitted that I was no longer able to pay them. They made several attempts to coerce me into paying deposits for “transitional housing” in the area, and used phrases such as “well, she isn’t going back to your house” and “guess you’re gonna put your daughter in the shelter”. I must make it clear that her mother and I made it clear from the start that she was always welcome home with certain rules and expectations (such as continuing with treatment). Staff even called with my daughter on the line as well demanding that I provide them a credit card over the phone for “stuff she needs”. When I declined and offered to make arrange arrangements myself through Insta Cart and Amazon I was met with teeth sucking by the “staff member” and hung up on. The worse part about it is when the money finally ran out and my daughter was released, she was sent home medicated to the point of being a zombie. No follow-up treatment plans were set- the Outpatient Treatment provider Banyan staff claimed they referred my daughter to had never heard of her and was unable to start treating at the time. The psychiatric provider I finally got her to was horrified when she saw the duplication of sedatives that she was prescribed and general overmedication. I am still in the process of finding an oversight agency to start an investigation into the practices at Banyan facilities. They are lucky that they operate in a grey area in terms of healthcare facilities and I have to shop their transgressions around.

My son was at Banyan Boca, February 7-20 to treat his bipolar. He was started on a vraylar for 5 days. After five days the Nursing Director stated his insurance did not cover the medication so Banyan stopped giving my son the medication. It was stated to me my son said the medication was not working. Most medication to treat mental illness doesn’t start working until the patient has taken the medication for a minimum of 3 weeks. I asked what medication was substituted for the vraylar the Nurse Director Said that he was not given a substitute medication. Amy did say my son had filled out an application for assistance from myabbvie. My son was released from Banyon Boca on Monday February 20 taking the same medication he came in taking on February 7. One of his goals was to find a medication that worked better for his illness of bipolar. My son started a PHP program with the assistance from Nicole (case worker at Banyan) and Shelia (his therapist at Banyan). Seven days after filling out the form to myabbvie for financial assistance, I decided to call and see what the application status was. On February 24 I spoke to a representative at myabbvie, she stated that the medical provider portion of the application had NOT been filled out.I asked the representative at myabbvie how long does it take to get approval for the medication once all of the paper work is turned in. She stated that it is a one to two day wait for approval and then the medication is received with in 7 to 10 days. IF the medical provider had turned in the paperwork my son potentially would have had the medication. The same day I spoke with myabbvie, February 24, I called Banyan Boca. I left a message for Shelia (my sons therapist) and the Nursing Director, Amy. I also sent an email to Shelia and to the Nurse Practitioner, Joan. I did NOT receive a phone call or email back. February 25 (8 days since my son had filled out the myabbvie form) I called myabbvie again. A representative for myabbvie once again stated that they had not received the medical providers portion of the application. I once again left voicemails and emails for Shelia, Joan (nurse practitioner) and Amy (Nursing Director). Once again no response from anyone at Banyan. February 25 I reached out to Robyn Singer (the family support specialist for Banyan). Robyn quickly responded, texting back that she would email my sons therapist.Monday February 28 I text Robyn back asking her if she has heard from anyone at Banyon. Robyn text back, “ I’m so sorry. This is unacceptable. I will be reaching back out.” I let Robyn know that I have also asked the clinic coordinator at my sons PHP program to reach out to Banyan. Eric, the clinic program coordinator at Beach Combers) stated he tried reaching out to Banyan but no one responded back to him. Tuesday March 29 Robyn text, “ I spoke to the clinical director at Banyan Boca and she is stating the QA team will be reaching out to you via email and things will be looked into.” February 29 I call myabbvie. I found out the medication was approved. My son would not pay a dime for the medication. At the time the application was filled out he was in treatment at Banyan so the medication was going to be delivered at that facility. March 3 Denise Quality Assurance at Banyan calls me. She stated that she is calling to collect information in regards to my matter with Banyan. Denise asked me to forward any documentation I have in trying to communicate with Banyan. I emailed Denise the many emails, screen shots of text with Robin and Eric and screen shots of the phone calls I had placed to Banyan. I explain to Dennis I have been in contact with myabbvie and they had finally received the medical provider information, the medication was approved. I stated I would be getting a tracking number on Friday March 4. I explained to her the importance of my son needing this medication asap and how Banyan had not helped my son get on the correct medication before he left the facility. Friday March 4th I called myabbvie to get the tracking number. The tracking system showed

Many treatment centers advertise mental health and substance abuse treatment, but this facility is truly strong in both. The staff is knowledgeable, caring and professional. They gave me my daughter back! I can't say enough positives for this facility and the one at Pompano Beach!
