Welcome to my practice!  I am a licensed clinical social worker and have been in private practice since 2007.  Prior to that, I worked in addictions treatment for 9 years.  I bring a wealth of experience and knowledge as a mental health therapist.

My outpatient counseling approach is founded on the principles of Cognitive Behavioral Theory, which suggests that our feelings and behaviors are based on the way we see ourselves and others.  If we like ourselves, we will be more confident about challenging situations.  If we have come to believe we are flawed somehow, we will be more likely to avoid challenging situations.  If we have been hurt by someone we love, then we may tend to have difficulty in relationships and friendships.  In session, we will find and listen to your inner voice through Cognitive Behavioral techniques and mindfulness.

I recently completed training in EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing Therapy) which is an especially effective way of treating trauma.  With EMDR, you can share as much or as little of the details as you feel comfortable while still getting results.

In couples counseling, relationships often get weakened because of stress from work, children, extended family, addictions, affairs, and/or insecurities brought into the relationship.  As a therapist, my role is to find strengths in the couple and identify the dynamics that might be tangling up the communication lines.

Additionally, I offer support and counseling for people who have been affected by a loved one’s addiction.  The disease of addiction leaves family members feeling confused, angry, guilty, and scared.  One of the goals of counseling is to find the balance between being supportive to the loved one who is addicted as well as learning how to take care of yourself.

Please call me for a phone consultation and to discuss arranging an initial appointment.
