Chrysalis House Healthy Start (CHHS) serves Maryland residents who are pregnant or with one child under the age of three, and who have a history of substance use disorder or mental health issues. Located on the grounds of St. Ambrose Church in Baltimore's Park Heights neighborhood, CHHS is supported by the Maryland Department of Health/Behavioral Health Administration (MDH/BHA) and Behavioral Health Systems of Baltimore (BHSB). CHHS partners with each resident to help her access the resources and referrals needed to achieve these goals: have a safe and healthy pregnancy; maintain sobriety and improve her mental and physical health; develop successful parenting skills; and transition to become an independent productive member of her community. CHHS provides safe and sober living in a healing environment, and supports a holistic approach and services to address all aspects of the woman’s personal goals and needs.

I tried the program and at first I thought that I had a great reception with their intake coordinator Miss Tammy Roberts she was in charge of my case and after actually getting there I found out they do not provide in-house child care for my toddler I was asked to enroll him in a preschool and ask the other women with children to watch my son for 3 hours while I did an intake 4 a new methadone treatment program they have only two staff members that actually watch the infants in their in-house daycare and my understanding was that one staff member at a time actually watches them and I was informed that my son was too much to handle for her the day I was to get the intake. The staff is not respectful or kind. I never met the director and the staff I encountered was unprofessional when it came down to deciding to stay or go only the other women in the program made me feel welcome. The worst of the staff was a woman named miss. Bridget who kept whispering with another co-worker every time I passed them hauling all of my belongings downstairs. I passed my intake counselor who didn't have any interest in speaking to me when I had questions about who would watch my son and the day care problem and was told that she said I can stay or go it's my choice and didn't try to actually help or give me any resolution to the issue at hand. I left with my belongings and walked past her and she didn't say a word when I went out of my way to tell her how caring she was when doing the intake. I regret not communicating more with her about the details of what my issues with the childcare were and found her to be the opposite of helpful or kind.
