As a Texas travel Nurse who has travelled from New Hampshire to Alaska Dubuque Specialty Care is the one facility that I was EAGER to work at. Under NEW administration I could see the difference on the first day. The administration is a refreshing group that is striving to rebuild. They were very welcoming to this travel nurse offering all resources available to make my assignment go smoothly. Offering good gestures to me I knew in my heart 💚 that the residents are treated well, with all they have to offer. The staff members the CNAS, the backbone of any facility are very attentive and hardworking. They meet the patients needs with a smile and kindness. I was only in this facility two days and saw all of this positive action. This is a heartfelt post from a travel nurse. As travelers we can see in a matter of hours what is going on in a facility. With much regret I must return to Texas for family matters. I would return with the quickness in the future. Long post and a sincere post. My first LTC review👍🏽

I worked as an RN at Dubuque Specialty Care prior to and during the covid 19 outbreak. I feel compelled to write a review here after reading such negative reviews by a few families. In 20 years as a nurse in long term care, I have NEVER worked with a more loving, dedicated and committed team of nurses and CNA's as I did in this building. At the time of the pandemic and our outbreak, we had a team with several new managers. I have also been a nurse manager for half of my career as a nurse but was not in a management role in this building. The guidance and regulations changed on a daily and sometimes hourly basis. There were multiple room changes each day and a shortage of PPE. We did our best as did the new management team...but NONE of us knew how to handle a pandemic!. We had staff leaving right and left....because of fear and because they got covid! I was literally working 16 hour shifts for 9-10 days in a row because I loved my team and resident's SO much and there was not enough staff to cover. I left my daughter with my family 4 hours away so I could show up for these people and make sure they had excellent care. Because of the sacrifices all of our staff made day after day, I am certain that they did. I understand how hard this was on families, but pounding on windows and stalking us from the parking lot did NOT help! What you don't know is that while you were doing that, WE were down the hall helping acutely ill people die in peace, or fight to LIVE! If you read those negative reviews, please understand, there is SO much more to the story in these buildings that have been hit by covid. Many of my coworkers are now suffering from PTSD because of the hardships we endured to take care of these incredible elderly people whom we loved and respected SO much! This building will always hold a special place in my heart!

Yesterday October 11th 2020 marked the fifth month that we lost our mother Marge Sweeney. My family has gone through a lot of pain. So sad that Mom's extended family could not give their farewells. April 27th 2020 will be a day that my family will never forget that's the day we had to move mom out to my sister's house in Dubuque. Mom had just continue to decline since her 99th birthday March 25th 20/20. The employees of Dubuque Specialty Care we're great. They know who they are and we want to give you our thanks and love that you gave our mother. The way we were treated mom's final day was terrible we were told we had by the end of the day to get Mom's recliner refrigerator and belongings off the premises by the close of business April 27th. We had to throw away the recliner because it has been rained on and hailed on before we could remove it. God bless the many friends that are family made there residence and employees

A beautiful, clean facility. Newer management that is attentive, genuinely cares about their residents, and kind. One of the few 5 star rated facilities in the area.

My father had a massive heart attack along with dialysis and had to leave the hospital. Since Dubuque Care Initiatives was close for my mother to visit him that's where we chose to go for his final days. My mother had to pay a month of care up front-over 7 thousand dollars before he even came through the door. My father died less than 48 hours later and after calls to them we are now over 105 days later and she still has not been reimbursed her money. The staff was wonderful but administration needs to refund her immediately with the interest she has lost waiting for what is hers. Talk about bad business practices. We will be contacting a lawyer.
