Treatment Process

Upon admission, an interdisciplinary assessment is conducted. Individuals receive a psychiatric evaluation, nursing assessment, physical examination and full psychosocial evaluation. Youth also receive recreational and educational assessments. Together, these are used to develop an individualized treatment plan that targets behaviors and symptoms requiring treatment.

Treatment Team

Depending on the patient’s needs, there may be a variety of individuals on their care team. When appropriate, treatment is a collaborative process that involves the patient, their family, and their treatment team. This interdisciplinary team may include just a few or several of our specialists:

Family Involvement

Family participation in the treatment process can be an essential component of the comprehensive treatment services we provide. Their involvement in the recovery process can benefit patients and themselves.

Financial Arrangements

Case managers and Kootenai Health’s business services department work with individuals to make financial arrangements for care. Kootenai Health is a contracted provider with many insurance companies and various state agencies. Payment arrangements can be made through the business office for services not covered by insurance.

Northern Idaho Crisis Center

The Northern Idaho Crisis Center is a non-profit community organization, created to help people who are having a mental health crisis or a drug or alcohol problem. The Crisis Center is a joint project between Panhandle Health District, Kootenai Health and Heritage Health. Staff members care for those that come to the center and help facilitate outside resources before each person leaves. The center is free, safe, private, and voluntary. The center is operated by Kootenai Health and is located on the Kootenai Health Coeur d’Alene campus. If you would like more information, please visit their website.

I was there Nov. 2020 and I didn't want to leave. Today I learned Dr. H, Char H and most of the staff that were there in that time frame have left. I an stunned at the departure of this amazing staff. I owe my on-going fight for sobriety for this amazing, loving supportive team. It's a HUGE loss for Kootenai to loose Dr. H AND Char H and all the support staff. HUGE LOSS for those that want help. So disappointed... it was an amazing environment. Kootenai you need to follow that example from Nov. 2020!

My brother stayed here and described it as a prison. He actively avoids asking for help for fear of having to go back here.

Relatively good place. Some of the staff is very rude and make it seem like your being there is a punishment. Family therapy is not an option and refusal leads to a longer stay, was put under what is basically "room arrest" for getting permission to leave a family therapy. Being anything but upbeat and happy leads to a longer stay. The rooms and food was good. You only get to talk to a therapist or doctor two or three times during your average 7-10 day stay. Otherwise you have to rely on the compassion of the nurses. The nurses were very kind and caring, it was mostly anyone above a nurse who was not kind.
