Minnesota Adult & Teen Challenge

I'm a graduate of Minnesota Adult and Teen Challenge and I am an alcoholic. I know I had a lot of underlying issues that I needed to work on and that's exactly what I did when I entered into the long- term program. Since the program I have found myself, I have my relationship with God, and I have my family back. After 25 years of using drugs and selling drugs and living a criminal lifestyle. I wanted to change. That's why I came to Teen Challenge.  I got dropped off on July 18th 2016 at 9:30 in the morning from prison and I started my new life right then and there. I'm a graduate of Minnesota and Teen Challenge women's program. I grew up in a small town and I started using heroin at the age of 15 or 16. When I was older, I was in an abusive relationship, using IV using meth and heroin and my life was completely messed up and unstable. After I started the short term program, I was kind of debating long-term but I was afraid of a big commitment. When I saw the women in long-term they were stable and really seemed to know exactly who they were. After about a month, I started to notice physical changes, I was becoming healthy and strong.

I completed the short term program twice and while I got a lot out of the Christ-centered treatment spiritually, I was in danger mentally because none of the staff use trauma-informed care and no one there wants to talk about the reality of mental illness and the steps it takes to start to help resolve that. Even the counselors had no idea what they were doing or how to handle crisis situations stemming from PTSD, which many of their clients have. They’re also associated with a few questionable pastors and churches. I would recommend teen challenge, as it strengthened my relationship to and understanding of God and it’s a great community but if you’re dealing with any kind of issues like ptsd or something more severe, be prepared for the fact that it won’t be acknowledged in the short-term program and there’s no support for it here.

Met a lot of interesting cats here from homeless and book and releases to used to be somethings Mario kart and the pool table kept me entertained god bless all of them life just kicks us in the shorts harder than others miss you guys I hold everyone I met there in high regards including the staff even though it was a fight club for a short time

Sonia please hush you were trespassing and then got bitter because they asked you to remove yourself from their property. This treatment center, Grace Manor is highly effective and protect the women they care for. they have strict rules like that because they have no clue if you’re dropping drugs on the premises or trying to gain contact from the people in the house. You have no idea the loopholes they have to avoid and prevent to keep those inside safe and on the right path. Yes you’re sitting with a baby on someone’s property when there is a park with benches right down the road. how about you keep quiet about your trespassing and stop making reviews about wonderful places doing wonderful things especially when your experience has nothing to do with what they do. you’re just ignorant and looking to gain some attention. MN Teen Challenge gave me my mother back and brought my family back together. I met so many inspiring people in this program. the people in the program from staff to clients are all beautiful and have life changing stories to share with you. I love MN Teen Challenge and am grateful to them everyday. I think the only thing that limits them is religion is heavily engrained into the program which would conflict with others practicing different religions outside of christianity.

I was sitting on the retaining wall facing the sidewalk/street with my 6 month old baby because he likes to watch the cars on Lowry (I live down the street from grace manor). Someone came out and told me I was trespassing by sitting on the outside of their retaining wall.. what a false claim to be “united in Christ” as the sign says. Christ would let a mother sit on the edge of his property with a baby. It’s not like I was in the yard.
