Phones, Computers, and Laptops Welcome! Unlike most rehab and detox centers, at Schick Shadel Hospital, patients can have amenities and everyday comforts such cell phones and laptops. Our unique methods have helped our program become the longest running program in the US. Schick Shadel is the only inpatient alcohol and drug rehabilitation hospital in the nation that uses medical science, aversion therapy, and counterconditioning to successfully treat addiction by stopping addictive cravings in the brain. As a result, Schick Shadel has treated more than 85,000 patients successfully over the past 85 years. A Schick Shadel and University of Washington study observed patient’s craving-related brain activity using an fMRI scan before treatment and 4 days after Schick Shadel’s treatments. The study concluded that there was a significant reduction or complete elimination of addictive cravings within the brain. After 12 months, 69% of participating patients were still sober.** Aversion therapy is a form of counter conditioning that helps remove cravings. The repetitious act of drug or alcohol use just strengthens the memory. Like a hard drive or digital camera, physical experiences stored in memory can be played back when triggered. Addiction builds associations in the brain that become embedded in short and long-term memory.

Mary SIngler is the most passive aggressive and mean spirited nurse I have encountered in years. When she is acting an temp director during vacation she refused to help a staff being physically assaulted ' not my problem' when she was asked for help. She threw snow and ice at my car and demanded that the other nurses do charge nurse duties even though she was getting paid to be the charge nurse Olga the director makes fun of your appearance and on a night when a nurse had a medical emergency that was fatal and she said " I am on vacation and nothing will get me there until 9am including that". two nurses aides said it was okay to alter patient information because it was payback to the white man. Most patients here are white.

I don't know whose bright idea it was to make Olga the director of nursing but I guarantee you that she will be the demise of this business. she hides behind a language barrier and has no care in the world for the problems that she as director is responsible for resolving. Olga refuses to pay their nurses fairly for extra work and there is no system in place, its absolute chaos. someone is going to get hurt and shes going to pretend she can't speak English well enough to do anything about it. you guys can't get people to want to work there for that reason.fill the role with a competent professional.

I went through this program about 11 years ago it was horrible. As an alcoholic I get drunk every night and threw up every morning I always wanted to quit. Therapy is to get you drunk and they make you puke.. We've all been there. So where is the adversion. Then on your off days they shoot you up with Sodium penthal and and ask you questions like would you like to quit drinking? I always said yes because. Of course I want to quit.We all do. DONT GO HERE. I just would like to tell you do not go to check your insurance will cover much better.

I feel like it needs to be said that no one will kick an addiction in 10 days. Even the traditional 28 days won't end the addiction. There are no shortcuts to the life long journey you are embarking on, if you choose sobriety. What Schick does - is give you the tools, and take away the cravings so you can handle this huge life shift. I have been abusing alcohol for 8 years and finally decided I needed professional help. Schick is working so far for me. I've been 81 days sober as of today. What the treatment is like: There is a daily schedule of meds, vitals, and group. You will spend the mid morning through mid afternoon either completing a sleepy (propofol conscious sedation treatment where they ask you a series of questions related to getting sober, and staying sober) and counseling, or a duffy (ipecac aversion treatment where they give you ipecac and then have you drink alcohol. you quickly become ill to associate drinking with nausea.). Late afternoon are various groups. Pros: -The medical director at the hospital is a true patient advocator. Sabrina is incredible. -The community. I felt safe sharing in group, and gained some friends I imagine will be with me for life. -The counselor John. I've been going to therapy the past ten years, but HE is my favorite person I've talked through my mental health with. Compassionate, empathetic, just a good listener, and has great life advice. He's been there done that, and helped me see some great perspective. His lectures are also my favorite. -The program. Schick gives all of the same literature that any other rehab gives, but also has the aversion therapy, and sedation treatment. -The resources. The media wall, the counselors, the lectures, the movies, the hypnosis videos, the 4 agreements, etc. There are so many resources it was hard to take them all in. But theyre all powerful and have continued to help me outside of Schick. Cons: -The nursing staff. For the most part I didn't have a problem. But some of the staff had no bedside manner whatsoever. Some said misogynistic comments. Some did room checks late at night with little regard to patients sleeping. Some argued with other nurses in front of me. Either the nurse was great or the nurse was pretty unprofessional. And I didn't see much inbetween. -Not a diverse group at all. As a black queer female I felt out of place here. It's mostly white men in their 30s and 40s.

Mary singler is a senior nurse here. my best travel nurse friend worked here this year. she disclosed to Mary singler ( who was the temporary director) while Olga the director was on vacation that she was being assaulted by an aide. Mary said it wasn't her problem. When the traveler pleaded with Mary for high priority help, Mary continued to refuse and would approach the travel nurse from the back and put her hands on her ( after the traveler disclosed that she was on edge from the aggressive aide. It was very intentional and Mary would laugh and then close the door and leave). Mary also demanded ( did not ask) that the traveler do her charge nurse duties and give all of the morning medications ( which is the charge nurse's job). So Mary sat there collecting the extra pay for being charge while taking charge of nothing. Her behavior almost cost this facility their amazing traveler. In the reviews I can see that this traveler was complimented and Mary who has been there for years has no Compliments. Olga the director knew that a staff member fell critically ill and refused to come in " I'm on vaca and nothing will get me to come in and help", that's your leadership Schick! Great choice! She also had the audacity to poke fun of staff's appearances and told my friend to drive home covered in a staff members body fluids in the cold winter after the medical emergency. Jennifer Harden is an aide who has been mentioned several times on the travel nurse chat. Many nurses have been assaulted by her and she was asked by my travel friend countless times to stop and she didn't " I'm bigger than you I can do what I want". Evening shift never did the paperwork they are required to prepare for night shift and instead hide in the break room for an hour on the clock. The aides have forgotten that they have a four week training compared to a nurse's four years and think they run the show and don't accept direction. They also alter patient information and with education they rationalize this because " we are getting back at the white man. If they get hurt, so be it". Aides need to stay in an aide's place. Ramona the LPN took patient documents and sharpied everything out and falsified charting under another patient's name and tried to make an RN give Pyxis meds under the RN name for this LPN. This LPN also insists on unsafe practices. I was considering working here and after her experience I will never do a contract here. Enjoy the food in the fridge that expired a year ago, the smell, the outdated appearance, and the disgustingly incompetent staff.
