Michael Miller5 StarYour literature has addiction and dependence exactly reversed. I am a clinical psychologist with 40 years of addiction treatment behind me and it's time you got this right. Dependence is the physiological process marked by tolerance to a *substance*. Tolerance is identified when physical symptoms of withdrawal are present. Addiction is the psychological (NOT physical) need, or *process*, to continue indulging in a behavior or set of behaviors. You can be addicted to many things which are not substances. Gamboling is the easiest example. It is a behavior that is compulsively engaged in _to the detriment_ of the individual and often those around them. No substance abuse need be present. Please do a deeper dive into the literature. "Psychology Today" is a pop magazine with zero demand for the scientific review which consists of experts in the field assessing an experiment. If you don't have experiments to refer to then your premise is wrong.Saturday 20th November 2021
