MY HOBBIES: In her spare time, Lauren enjoys doing mud runs/obstacle races with friends, like the Spartan Races, Tough Mudder, and Warrior Dash. She has also recently started doing Jiu Jitsu, and has been enjoying immensely.
Lauren Irizarry’s interest in the sciences and her extensive involvement in sports growing up were the initial forces that opened the door to field of physical therapy for her. Then, after volunteering at an outpatient practice in Cranford, she fell in love with the profession and decided it was the right career path for her. This led Lauren to Seton Hall University, where she obtained a Bachelor of Science in Biology in 2012 and then a Doctor of Physical Therapy in 2016. While completing her doctorate, Lauren also served as a teacher’s assistant and helped guide underclassmen in the program.
Lauren joined the Twin Boro Physical Therapy team in 2016, when she began working in the Parlin office and gained skills treating a variety of conditions. In 2018, she became the Assistant Director of the Parlin office before advancing to Clinical Director of the Edison location. Throughout her career, Lauren has also pursued continuing education courses through Great Lakes Seminars, with a concentration on the treatment of lumbar and shoulder impairments.
Lauren makes it a priority to focus on each patient individually and utilizes a variety of techniques to help patients fully return to their previous lifestyles and activities. These include manual therapy interventions like soft tissue mobilization, joint mobilization, and myofascial release, as well as therapeutic exercises and functional activities. She particularly enjoys working with the pediatric and orthopedic populations, including patients recovering from surgery and sports injuries. Lauren also finds great satisfaction in knowing that her efforts help patients’ get their lives back and return to the things they love that injury or pain was preventing them from enjoying.
When treating patients, Lauren implements Twin Boro’s One2FourTM Care Model to determine the “right level of health care” for each individual. This unique approach looks at the entire continuum of care for the patient or athlete. This ranges from a relatively low level of function a patient might experience post injury or surgery all the way through to the peak performance required to return to their prior or preferred level of function.
