Crisis Services:

Valley HealthCare System's crisis services operate 24 hours per day for those individuals that are having difficulty coping with life's problems on a daily basis.

At Valley HealthCare System, we understand the process of crisis services. Valley offers a wide range of services for adolescents, adults and families who are experiencing problems and are unable to cope without assistance.

Valley HealthCare System's crisis services consist of three different components of crisis care and intervention:

The Crisis Clinic operates during regular clinic hours to provide crisis services to walk-ins, phone callers and those seeking services for others who may be in crisis. The clinic also offers the opportunity to obtain services when services are not otherwise available. Specialized services in this clinic consist of crisis therapy, assistance with the mental hygiene process and intake and referral.

The Crisis Team is designed to provide support and information services through a 24-hour crisis line to Valley HealthCare System consumers and community when traditional supports are unavailable. Team members assist in facilitating both voluntary and involuntary hospitalization. This service also provides 24-hour response information and referral services and has an extensive knowledge of community services.

The Crisis Residential Unit (CRU) is an 8-bed adult unit specializing in acute psychiatric signs and symptoms for those suffering with mental health issues such as depression, bi-polar disorders and anxiety. Individuals are screened by a physician/psychiatrist and must be medically cleared prior to admission. Services provided at the unit include: Crisis Stabilization, Case Management, Clinical Evaluation, Individual and Group Therapy, Counseling, Psychiatric Coverage, and Medication Management. The staff at the CRU will work with the client to stabilize the situation, prepare them for discharge and return to their home and community with follow-up care.

Mental Health Outpatient Services for Adults

Adult outpatient services are provided to those experiencing any form of mental illness. Some form of mental illness affects about one out of three people in the United States during their lifetime. A small, fortunate percentage of those people are able to recognize symptoms, deal with their situation, and do not feel the need to seek assistance. However, most people who have some form of mental illness do not have the coping skills necessary to handle their situations and must seek assistance in getting their lives back on track. Adult outpatient services at Valley HealthCare System encompass a variety of resources that provide an effective solution to those seeking that assistance. At Valley HealthCare System, we understand the importance of having a fulfilling quality of life and provide the following services necessary to getting you there.

Mental Health Outpatient Services for Children

A child's mental health equates to how they think, feel and act in order to face life's situations. It is how they look at themselves, their life and the people that surround them. It effects how they make choices. A child's mental health involves things like handling stress, relating to their friends, teachers, family and how they make decisions.

Mental health problems in children are real. They range from good to not-so-good, even poor. A child's mental health fluctuates and they may require help in order to handle their problems. Some of their problems can be identified as:

Mental Health Day Treatment

Mental Health Day Treatment is located in Morgantown and is open to participants from Preston, Marion, Taylor and Monongalia Counties.  This program provided adults with structured programming to gain life skills, interpersonal skill and community integration.  This program also provides individuals with knowledge about his/her illness and the treatment options that are available.  Limited transportation is available to individuals who do not have transportation available to them.

Supported Housing

Supported Housing is a program developed to increase and enhance our consumers' independent living status. Supported Housing is an in-home/community service that is used to support consumers and to integrate them back into the community. This program is usually a long-term program in which we teach consumers new skills to increase their functioning and help them lead more independent lives outside of our services. We work toward teaching consumers how to take care of their home, cook for themselves, access transportation services, take care of their medications and medical appointments, take care of daily grooming and bathing activities and to show them new resources within the community that they can access for support.

Clubhouse

The Clubhouse is a safe and structured environment and is a "Drop in Center" that was brought into existence in August 2001, due to the many changes brought on by managed care for the severe and chronically mentally ill. The goals of The Clubhouse are to preserve stable mental health; decrease stigmatization associated with the mentally ill, and increase integration into the community.  

Valley's Assertive Community Treatment Program (VACT)

Provides intense wrap around services including, but not limited to case management, therapy, nursing services, vocational services, and psychiatry services in the individuals' home, community and at the office.

Care Coordination

Provides intensive case management and direct services to individuals who are at risk of being involuntarily hospitalized in order to decrease their risk of hospitalization.Services are individualized and may include a broad range of services including frequent assessment of symptom level, assistance with filling prescriptions, and transportation to medical appointments,supportive counseling, crisis intervention, and social activities. Care Coordinators also act as first responders in crisis that occur in hospitals in the community by assisting individuals with accessing least restrictive treatment options rather than being involuntarily committed to hospitals.

Mental Health Group Homes

Two Forensic Groups homes each with the capacity to serve seven individuals.  Residents must be referred from Sharpe or Bateman Hospital.  This is a long-term 24 hour a day/seven day a week program.
