After having a total hip replacement I spent 19 days at the Venetian. Right from the start I was made comfortable and all my needs taken care of. From the front desk to the nurses, aides and therapists each took their jobs seriously making sure I got the treatment I needed each day. I especially want to thank Rosemary and Fernanda for their kindness and responsible way they handled their duties. The building is kept clean and I thought the food was pretty good. If you want to be taken care of with dignity and kindness, the Venetian is the place to go.

My aunt needed to go into rehab. I live in Pennsylvania, south of Philadelphia and another niece lives outside of Baltimore. Not knowing any of the rehabs in the Carteret area, we relied on the recommendation of the social worker and a neighbor and chose the Venetian. Big mistake!! I would never recommend this to any living soul! We traveled to visit my aunt several times in the three weeks she was there and spoke with the head nurse, who was cordial but never left her desk at the end of the floor. I visited on the second Wednesday that my aunt was there as a patient. My aunt filled me in on things that need to be handled at home and where to find bills that had to be paid, etc. I spent the weekend handling her financial and insurance affairs and returned on Tuesday evening to find my aunt slumped over in a wheelchair, hair matted and I uncombed, wearing filthy clothing and mumbling incoherently. The Gatorade that I had opened the Wednesday before was still there, untouched, so were the newspapers from the week before, and the closet had her filthy clothes hanging in hangers, unwashed. My aunt was mumbling that they never come and she needed to use the bathroom, which my cousin and I handled. I then announced that we wanted someone who had my aunt on their caseload to come assess the situation and answer questions. Only then did the head nurse, Joyce, move from her desk and cell phone to come down to the room. I told Joyce that my aunt was malnourished and had been completely neglected and how could this be allowed to happen? She had declined exponentially since the last week. Joyce proceeded to tell me “what do you expect? Your aunt has dementia and is not eating. And you girls don’t come visit her enough.” My aunt was coherent the week before, she just couldn’t hear properly without her hearing aids. I asked Joyce if she had ever bothered to have a conversation with my aunt, as she was coherent the week before, but extremely malnourished now. As if this could explain why it was ok to neglect her and not serve her food she could eat! And they have the audacity to bill me for two days! Not on your life will this bill be paid!!

My Mom has been at the Venetian since February of 2021 and on the whole we’ve been very happy with her care. She has awesome nurses, lead by Unit Manager Ed, Sue, Pat and Peggy are such kind and genuinely caring people. Even the nurses that fill in have been great. CNA’s are great too, Trinia, Rose, Courtney, Bernadette, AB, Roland. Such a tough job, I’m so grateful to them. Lena and Samantha in food services are awesome too. Lena takes good care of Mom, always making sure she has something she likes to eat and always updating me with the new menus to make sure Mom is happy with her meals. The activities department is absolutely wonderful, headed by Annette and Teresa. Especially, during COVID, they worked so hard to make sure the families were able to facetime with the residents and did all they could to make a very difficult time a little better. Teresa would always do her best to schedule visits so that residents could visit with their families as much as possible. The girls in activities are so great, Gladis, Sue, Wendy and Megan. They really try to get the residents involved, with music, games, exercise, bingo, manicures and many other fun activities. Annette is so wonderful, she genuinely cares for the well being and happiness of the residents. There were days where I couldn’t get in for a visit and she would make a point to let me know that Mom had gotten involved with one of the activities and how much fun she had. It made my day! She would also just check in to say hello to Mom and see how she was doing on a daily basis, which I know Mom was not the only one she did this for. It really makes me feel good, that on the days I can’t be with Mom there are kind, caring people looking in on her. I’ve met so many kind people since Mom has been at the Venetian, especially Aisha, former activities member who was promoted. I don’t know what I would have done without her early on and she still makes a point to visit the residents to see how they are doing, even though it is no longer in her job description. The maintenance department is great too, Anthony, Tim & Jules, whenever we’ve had any issues, they come up right away to address it. The receptionists are so nice too, Diane and Esther, always doing whatever they can to help and it’s nice to come in to a friendly face. Thank God for all these wonderful people. My only criticism is that I wish they could hire more nurses and aides. I would hate for Mom to lose the wonderful Nurses and CNA’s she has because they are overworked. These are not easy jobs, both mentally and physically exhausting. A happy employee makes for happy residents and in turn, happy family members. Corporate, please do whatever you can to hire more amazing people and above all keep the amazing people you have, believe me, they are hard to come by and should be rewarded for their hard work. Thank you to all the amazing caregivers at the Venetian, if I missed anyone, I'm so sorry, our family is so thankful to you all and we appreciate all you do.

My Mom has been at the facility for long term care as well as short term respite care since August 2020. The admissions person Melissa is an Angel. Melissa is compassionate and goes above and beyond to ensure your loved one has all that is required for a seamless process for check in. My mom has dementia and the nursing staff has called me to give updates on her care and asking what she might like to eat when she had times she refused to eat the food served. They suggested I drop off her favorite snacks or packed them so she has something to eat that she enjoys. During my summer vacation 2021 my Mother BP spiked close to hospital admittance, The nurse on duty called to provide me updates and were making sure they monitored her BP and had the Doctor provide meds to stabilized. There is no perfect care facility but they go out of their way to address your concerns and address them in a professional and thoughtful manner. I am a big believer in fostering relationships and thankful my Mom is in a safe environment with health professionals who ensure she is well cared for when I need a break from caregiving.

The worst place I've ever encountered. My Grandfather was sent there for rehab from the hospital and he was completely mistreated. He went in negative from covid (he was tested at the hospital before being released) and left with covid. The maintenance lady had covid and still was working at the facility. The employees there assumed he didnt understand english and were speaking in front of him about her having covid. He has now passed away 3 weeks after leaving this murder ward! This is a horrible place STAY AWAY!!! I'm getting more information on how to pursue this further.
